Liverpool host Crystal Palace in their second match back after the break on Wednesday, June 24, 2020. Will the hosts be able to perform better than they did against Everton, or will Crystal Palace be able to snatch a point or more at Anfield?
Liverpool's performance against Everton was a typical match after not having played for a long time. Both teams took a while to get going, and the rust did not provide any goals in the match. This was Liverpool's second draw of the season and it would have been a shocking one if this were to happen earlier in the season. Liverpool controlled the match, with around 70% possession and 10 shots. However, they were not able to convert any of those chances. Mohamed Salah did not start the match for Liverpool and he may have made a difference if he were in the squad. Liverpool knows they are going to win the league and they will want to get a few more victories under their belt to ensure they don't have to play under pressure later in the season.
Crystal Palace came in clutch in their first game back from after the break, beating Bournemouth 2-0. Palace did not have many chances, but when they did, they made the most of them. Bournemouth has not been a good side this season and they seem to be going down if they continue to play the way they did. Palace will want to improve their performance despite the victory, as they were lucky to convert their only two shots on target.
The reverse fixture ended with Liverpool winning 2-1 at Crystal Palace. Crystal Palace is one of those teams who is able to cause incredible upsets, as we saw last season against Manchester City. However, I do not see that happening today. Liverpool will want a better performance and they will take advantage of any gaps they find in the Palace defense. Palace will have to be playing much better if they are to get anything out of this game.
Give me Liverpool to win, and a goal fest to happen.
