Manchester United host Sheffield United on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, in what is going to be an extremely tough match for both sides. Will Manchester United claim more points to protect their Champions League spot, or will Sheffield spoil the party?
Manchester United should have really won their first match back against Tottenham. United was the better side in the match and they should have converted more chances. Their match against Tottenham really showed us their defensive weakness, with record defensive signings such as Harry Maguire just not playing well at all. United are a team that can beat the best teams in the league, as we saw when they went against Manchester City prior to the break. However, they are also a team which disappoints against teams which they should easily beat. This is going to be a tough match for the Red Devils, and one they should not take lightly.
Sheffield United were absolutely destroyed in their first match back against Newcastle United. Sheffield lost a man when John Egan was sent off in the beginning of the second half, and once that happened, the match was handed to Newcastle. Sheffield United are a much better side than that result shows, as they should never lose 3-0 to Newcastle, however, they need to get the rust off their game as they now meet Manchester United. Sheffield United are in 7th place in the league and only 2 points behind United. A victory here could help them put themselves closer to a Champions League spot.
The reverse fixture was very even, with a 3-3 draw being the result. I think Manchester United might take Sheffield United too lightly here and that it could be another goal fest. However, I don't see either side winning this one. Both sides would be happy with a point here and they do not want to risk too much and potentially leave massive gaps in their defense. Both teams need to improve, but neither of them are good enough to beat the other at the moment. Give me the draw at +340 and expect a tight game.
