Newcastle United host Aston Villa in their second match back after the break on Wednesday, June 24, 2020. Will Aston Villa get some needed points to get out of the relegation zone, or will Newcastle United potentially get into the top half of the table?
Newcastle's performance against Sheffield United on Sunday was an incredible display. Newcastle United won 3-0, with all 3 goals coming in the second half after John Egan of Sheffield United was sent off. Newcastle's new signing, Allan Saint-Maximin, has been superb all season and he opened the scoring for Newcastle. Newcastle are a very exciting team for next season and they are expected to make some big signings in the years to come. Will they be able to get some momentum going before the season ends and get a victory here against Aston Villa?
Aston Villa opened the scoring against Chelsea on Sunday, only two concede two goals in the span of 3 minutes in the second half. Aston Villa seemed like they would be able to maintain their win or at least get a draw, but sloppy mistakes in their defense happened and they are still fighting in the relegation zone. Chelsea took complete advantage of the mismanaged defense and controlled the match in the end, with nearly 75% possession. Aston Villa are not a Premier League caliber team as they used to be in the past, and it is going to take something incredible for them to remain in the top flight of English football.
The reverse fixture between these two teams was a solid Aston Villa victory, defeating Newcastle United 2-0. However, since that match, these two teams have gone in opposite directions. Newcastle has been getting better and better, winning 3 of their last 5 matches, whilst Aston Villa is getting worse, losing 4 of their last 5. This match could go either way as Newcastle is the better team, but Aston Villa is more desperate for points at the moment. Both of these teams' defense is wobbly and I think it will be a high scoring game. Give me the over 2.5 goals.
