Real Sociedad is welcoming Celta Vigo to Reale Arena in round 31 of Spanish LaLiga.
Sociedad is struggling massively and it’s costing them both the Europa League and the Champions League. With three games behind us since the restart, Sociedad is yet to win a game despite being a slightly better team in all three of those games. During this stretch, Sociedad has scored only 2 goals, while conceding 5 goals. Real Sociedad is now in 7th place with 47 points, 47 scored goals, and 38 conceded goals. Jose and Ozarzabal have both scored 9 goals for Sociedad, while Portu and Isak added 7 goals each. Portu and Oyarzabal both added 7 assists. Sangala, Illarramendi, and Barrenetxea are all injured, while Guevara is still questionable for this game. In their last LaLiga match against Real Madrid this past weekend, Sociedad has had 51% of ball possession, 2 shots on target, 2 corner kicks, and 85% of the correct passes. It was a decent game for Real Sociedad which they lost 1-2. The struggles continue for Sociedad. I know it’s just a matter for time before Sociedad starts playing better soccer, I just hope it’s not going to be too late for their Europa League and Champions League ambitions.
Celta Vigo has finally won a game, and boy what the display of power it was. Celta has had its biggest victory in a long, long time. In the said game against Alaves at home, Celta has had 72% of the ball possession, 10 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, and high 90% of the correct passes. Everything Celta did in this game was great and it worked perfectly. Celta Vigo has won this match 6-0. With this win, Celta is now breathing a bit easier as they are in 16th place with 30 points, 4 points away from the relegation zone. The defense hasn’t been bad for Celta this season with only 35 conceded goals, but their offense hasn’t been on the high enough level with only 28 scored goals. Since the season restarted, Celta has lost 1 game, won 1 game, while the third one ended in a draw. Iago Aspas is Celta’s top goalscorer with 10 goals, while Rafinha and Mina added 4 goals each. Denis Suarez added 5 assists. Alvarez and Junca are both injured, while Mallo is still questionable. In their last three games, Celta has conceded only 1 goal which is the fantastic news, but I hope that these 6 goals they scored to Alaves are a sign of improvement and not just some kind of cosmic joke on Celta’s ambitions.
The trends are evenly split between Sociedad and Celta, 16 wins each, while 18 games ended in a draw. Celta has an away record of 1-7-7, and they haven’t won any of their last 7 away games. Sociedad is in a bad form and they are struggling massively in the attacking end, but they are too talented team to keep this slump going for much longer. Who knows how will Celta’s players react after their big win, but I will stick with goals here.
