Southampton host Arsenal on Thursday, June 25, 2020 in what is going to be a very tight game as both teams are in desperate need of points. Will Arsenal make it 3 defeats in 3 matches, or will the gunners bounce back?
Southampton gained a boost in confidence after defeating Norwich City 3-0 on the weekend, controlling the match from the second half onwards. Southampton took care of the worst team in the league and they showed us their attacking playstyle, shooting the ball 22 times! Southampton is 14th in the league, 10 points away from the relegation zone and it is very unlikely that they have anything to worry about on the table this year. However, looking at how Arsenal have played in their last two games, I would not be shocked if Southampton wants to take advantage and embarrass the Gunners again.
Arsenal were shocking against Brighton on the weekend, losing 2-1 to a 95th-minute winner by Neil Maupay. Arsenal did not play their best in the first half, and they were lucky it was still 0-0 as both teams went to the changing rooms. In the second half, Arsenal came out and were looking like they were going to secure all 3 points after an incredible goal by Nicolas Pepe in the 70th minute. However, as we have seen so many times before, Arsenal just stopped controlling possession and just began to defend after their goal. Brighton took advantage of Arsenal's lack of determination to put the game to bed and scored in the 75th minute. Arsenal continued to play passively and in the last second of the game, they conceded another goal. Arsenal are disappointing and definitely need to bounce back here.
The reverse fixture saw both teams secure a point in a 2-2 draw. Southampton will have a huge boost in confidence after that 3-0 victory over Norwich, however, this match is not as important for them as it is for Arsenal. Arsenal is trying to secure a Europa League spot and are very desperate for points. Southampton is very far away from the relegation zone and this is not a very important game for them. Take Arsenal to bounce back.
