Watford host Southampton in Match 32 of the English Premier League. Both sides suffered defeats on Thursday and are looking to bounce back. Will Watford be able to distance themselves from the relegation zone, or will Southampton spoil the party?
Southampton's performance against Arsenal on Thursday was not very good. Arsenal was able to control the majority of the match even if the possession was nearly 50/50. Southampton had chances to score, shooting the ball 11 times, but only 3 of those were on target and they were not very threatening. Arsenal were more clinical and scored two goals to secure the victory. Southampton are going to be without Jack Stephens who got sent off in the 85th minute and they will not have to ensure they can survive a game without one of their main central defenders. Southampton are not a side with very consistent players, however, they do not really have much to fight for as they are not close to the relegation zone, being 10 points clear.
Watford also suffered a defeat to Burnley on Thursday. The game was very even, with both teams shooting 10 times, 4 times on goal each. Watford had 55% possession and they had 7 corners. The game looked like it was going to be Watford's for the taking, however, a 73rd-minute goal by Jay Rodriguez changed that. Watford has not had the best of luck since the return of the Premier League and they will be desperate for points here. Watford is 16th in the league, only 1 point ahead of the relegation zone. If Watford are to stay in the Premier League, they really need some positive results in these last 7 games.
The reverse fixture ended in a 2-1 victory for Southampton. Watford got dominated in every aspect in that game, only having 35% possession and losing from 1-0 up. Watford will be looking for revenge, but i just do not see them being strong enough to win. Southampton have nothing to play for really and they're not going to give it their all in my opinion. This match is more important for Watford, but they are not clinical, so give me a draw. Both teams would be happy to settle for a point.
