Maritimo is welcoming SL Benfica to Estadio do Maritimo in part of round 29 in Portuguese Primeira Liga.
Maritimo is not playing well this season and they are barely outside the relegation zone, in 16th place with 28 points, just 4 points in front if Portimonense who are in the relegation zone. Maritimo has scored only 27 goals this season and they have won only 1 of their last 4 games since the restart. In their last Primeira Liga game against Portimonense on the road, Maritimo has had 58% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, and 83% of the correct passes. This was an exciting game where we saw 5 goals, but unfortunately for them, Maritimo has lost this game 3-2 to their direct competitor to stay out of the relegation zone. In their last 4 games, Maritimo has conceded 6 goals while scoring 5 goals. Pinho is the leading goal scorer for Maritimo with 8 goals. Ruben is injured, while Bambock is suspended because of the yellow cards. There is not much to say about Maritimo, just a below-average team that is struggling a lot, but I wish them luck in their battle to stay in the Primeira Liga, and judging by their form, Maritimo will need all the luck they can get.
Benfica, just when you think they are getting the hang of their form and that they will stay ahead of their fiercest competitor, Porto, Benfica goes on and losses a home game against freaking Santa Clara, a team that scored 25 goals before that game, and just for comparison, Benfica scored 59 in the same amount of games. Benfica was the dominant team in that game with 59% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, and 78% of the correct passes. Benfica might have been dominant, but their defense was a disaster, and Benfica has lost this game 3-4. With this loss, Benfica has once again let Porto take over the top of the Primeira Liga and is now in second place with 64 points, 3 points less than Porto. Overall, Benfica is having a solid season and one of the best defenses in the league with only 21 conceded goals, but once again, behind Porto. Vinicius has scored 17 goals for Benfica this season, while Pizzi added 15 goals and 8 assists. Grimaldo and Jardel are injured, while Gabriel and Dias are both suspended because of the yellow cards. There are 6 games left in the season, and Benfica has enough time to catch up to Porto, but the fortune must be on their side because Porto must also lose a game or two.
Maritimo hasn’t won any of their last 4 games against Benfica, while Benfica hasn’t lost any of their last 4 away games. There is no doubt that Benfica is the better team on both ends here, and I will side with them because Benfica will look to get back on the winning track after their embarrassing loss last week.
