Real Betis is hosting Villarreal at Benito Villamarin in round 33 in Spanish LaLiga.
Betis is struggling since the restart, and I really mean struggling. Their defense has been all over the place, while their offense just hasn’t been producing enough chances to compensate for the terrible defense. In their latest LaLiga game against Levante on the road, Betis has had 64% of the correct passes, 8 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, and 88% of the correct passes. Despite being the dominant team, Betis was losing 4-0 until the 59th minute. Betis was able to score two goals in 70th and 87th minute, but that was nowhere nearly enough, and in the end, Betis has lost this match 4-2. Betis is in 13th place in the standings with 37 points, and I have no doubt that Betis will stay in LaLiga, but they will not get anywhere near the Europa League. With 52 conceded goals, Betis is one of the worst defensive teams in LaLiga, while they scored 43 goals, which is not bad, but most of those goals came before the break. Moron has scored 9 of those 43 goals, while Joaquin added 8 goals, and Fekir has 7 goals. Emerson, Moreno, and Canales each added 5 assists. Joaquin and Emerson are both injured, and they will not be playing in this game. Nothing has been working for Betis for a while now, which is strange because they are a good team, but who knows what is rotten in Betis’ locker room.
Alongside Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, Villarreal is in the best form in LaLiga and they haven’t lost any of their last 5 games since the restart. During this stretch, Villarreal has conceded only 2 goals, while scoring 7 goals. Villarreal is now in 6th place in the standings with 51 points, which is the Europa League qualifications spot, but they are just 3 points away from the Champions League, and if they continue playing this well, Villarreal might just get there. Villarreal has scored 51 goals this season which makes them the third-best offensive team in LaLiga, but they conceded 40 goals, which could be better with just a little bit more focus on the defensive end. Gerard Moreno has scored 13 goals for Villarreal this season, while Cazorla added 8 goals and 8 assists. Mori and Guerra are both injured, and they will not be in the lineup for this game. In their most recent LaLiga match against Valencia at home, Villarreal was the better team with 57% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, and high 90% of the correct passes. Villarreal has deservedly won this match 2-0. There is always room for improvement, but Villarreal is doing well, and they deserve to get that last Champions League spot, and I hope they do.
This is a game that could potentially go to Betis, but Villarreal is filled with confidence and they are playing outstanding soccer. With all of that being said, I will give it a shot at goals here because both teams are capable of scoring a lot, and their defenses are not as good.
