West Ham host Chelsea in what is a very important match for both teams on both ends of the Premier League table. Chelsea are looking to ensure they maintain their Champions League spot, and West Ham are trying to save themselves from the relegation zone. Who will come out on top?
Chelsea have been very good in the last week, winning against Manchester City 2-1 in the Premier League on Thursday, and beating Leicester 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup on Sunday. Chelsea are 4th in the league, 1 point behind Leicester City and 2 points ahead of Wolves who have already played an extra game. Chelsea is most likely going to make the Champions League spots but they will want to work extremely hard to ensure there are no slip-ups and chances to fall down the table. What really impressed me with Chelsea was their ability to counter-attack against Manchester City on Thursday. Chelsea only had 33% possession, but they were able to shoot 13 times and 8 of them were on goal. They were able to quickly turn defense into attack, a thing which will be vital for the rest of the season.
West Ham's season has just been terrible. The Hammers got absolutely destroyed last Tuesday by Tottenham 2-0 and they are 17th in the league, only because of goal difference. West Ham needs points and they need them badly. I do not see any West Ham player, over than Felipe Anderson, able to make a difference in that team. Unfortunately, it looks like they could be relegated if Bournemouth or Aston Villa get some points in their next few games. West Ham do not have the attacking ability to hurt teams, and they do not have the defensive ability to keep clean sheets.
The last time these two met in the Premier League it was actually a West Ham victory. At the time Chelsea was not on top of their game and they were much lower in the league. Chelsea have completely changed their step since then and unfortunately for West Ham, they have no chance here. Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, and Cristian Pulisic will eat this game up. I don't see West Ham even scoring here. Take Chelsea & Both Teams to Score - No at +180.
