Manchester City will host Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday, July 2nd 2020. Liverpool are now the Premier League champions, but will City want to spoil their party and show them who's really boss?
Liverpool were ecstatic last Thursday when Chelsea beat Manchester City 2-1, handing Liverpool the Premier League title. Liverpool have had a 30 year drought and they showed us all this season how amazing they have been. With 7 games left to play, it will be interesting to see how much effort Liverpool put into the rest of the season. Liverpool have played 2 games since the restart of the Premier League, a 0-0 draw with Everton, and then a 4-0 victory against Crystal Palace. Liverpool are the best team in the Premier League, and they have been extremely consistent all season, only dropping 7 points out of a possible 93. Liverpool have nothing to play for as they are out of the Champions League, FA Cup, and have already won the Premier League, but I am sure Klopp wants to reach the 100 points mark as they have 7 games left and 14 points to reach that milestone.
Manchester City were an absolute mess last Thursday when they lost 2-1 to Chelsea. City were not concentrated sometimes on defense and they allowed some silly mistakes to hand Chelsea the match. Chelsea opened the scoring with a beautiful Cristian Pulisic goal in the first half, however, after the break, Kevin De Bruyne scored a superb free-kick and the momentum swung back in City's favor. All seemed to show that City were going to find a winner in the second half, however, a silly Fernandinho hand-ball gave Chelsea a penalty and sent off one of City's central defenders. City's loss handed Liverpool the title, and I am sure Pep's men want to demonstrate that they are better than Liverpool.
The reverse fixture of this match was a Liverpool masterclass. Liverpool scored 2 goals in the first 13 minutes of the match, and ended up winning 3-1. Liverpool have had City's number this season, however, with not much to play for on Liverpool's side, this seems to be leaning towards a City victory. City want revenge for this loss and for the loss of the Premier League title. I expect Pep Guardiola to have motivated his men to take this match as seriously as a Champions League final. Expect goals, and expect City to dominate.
