Roma is hosting Udinese at Stadio Olimpico in round 29 of Italian Serie A.
Roma is a good, young team with a lot of potentials, but they are yet to utilize that potential. In their last two Serie A games since the restart, Roma has 1 win, and 1 loss from their last game against Milan on the road. I expected more from Roma in that match, but instead, Roma has had 43% of ball possession, 1 shot on goal, 6 corner kicks, and 83% of the correct passes. Roma has lost this match 2-0 only because of their sloppy defense. With 48 points, 53 scored goals, and 38 conceded goals, Roma is in 5th place in the standings, the place that leads to the Europa League group stage, but Napoli is breathing on their necks, and Roma must quickly snap out of their loss this past weekend. Dzeko is Roma’s top goalscorer with 14 goals, while Mkhitaryan and Kolarov added 6 goals each. Pellegrini has 9 assists for Roma this season. Zaniolo is injured, while Lopez and Zappacosta are still questionable. Pellegrini and Veretout are suspended because of the yellow cards. Missing Pellegrini is a big blow for Roma, but I believe they have enough depth to replace him or any other player for that matter.
Udinese is one of the weakest teams in Serie A, and they are only 3 points outside the relegation zone, in 15th place with 28 points. Offensively, Udinese hasn’t been doing well this season and they scored only 23 goals in 28 games, the second-worse in Serie A, while they conceded 41 goals this season. In their latest Serie A game against Atalanta at home, Udinese has had low 31% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 0 corner kicks, and 78% of the correct passes. Even with a small possession, Udinese was able to score 2 goals, which is telling me that there is still some life left in Udinese, but they still lost this match 2-3. Lasagna is Udinese’s top goalscorer with only 6 goals, while Okaka and De Paul added 5 goals each. Seko Fofana added 5 assists. Prodl and Mandragora are both injured and will not be in the lineup. There are 4 teams that are competing to stay outside the relegation zone, and Udinese isn’t better than any of the other teams, but they are the farthest one from the relegation zone. With a few more points, which Udinese can certainly win until the end of the season, they will be safe and their spot in Serie A will be secured.
When playing at home, Roma has not lost to Udinese in their last 6 games, and I think it will stay that way after this match as well. Roma is the better team that needs to get back on the winning track if they want to stay in the Europa League spot.
