Atletico Madrid is hosting RCD Mallorca at Wanda Metropolitano in round 34 in Spanish LaLiga.
Atletico is in an excellent form and they haven’t lost any of their last 6 games since the season restart. During this stretch, Atletico has scored 12 goals, which is quite odd for such a defensive team, while they conceded 4 goals. Overall, Atletico has scored 43 goals this season, while their defense has been outstanding with only 25 conceded goals. With 59 points, Atletico is in third place in the standings, but they are still in danger of losing their Champions League spot. In their last LaLiga game against Barcelona on the road, Atletico was facing an opponent they have never beaten on the road since Simeone is the head coach. Atletico has had only 28% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, and 77% of the correct passes. This was a game filled with controversy, a game where we saw three goals from penalty kicks, and an own goal by Atletico. This match ended in a 2-2 draw. Morata is still Atletico’s top goalscorer with 9 goals, while Felix and Niguez both added 6 goals. Koke and Correa have 5 assists each. Sime Vrsaljko is now the only injured player for Atletico. Of all the top three teams in LaLiga, Atletico has the easiest schedule and I think they won’t have a problem with securing their Champions League spot for next season.
After playing 5 straight games without a win in LaLiga since its restart, Mallorca has had an absolutely brilliant game against Celta at home just a few days ago. Mallorca has had only 39% of ball possession in that match, but they had 7 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, and 81% of the correct passes. This was the best game of the season for Mallorca and they were incredibly effective in this game as they scored 5 goals from 7 shots on target. Mallorca has won this game 5-1. With this win, Mallorca has gotten a step closer to getting out of the relegation zone, but there is still work to be done as they are now 5 points away from the team they have just beaten. Mallorca’s offense hasn’t been that good this season as they scored only 35 goals, and what is worse for Mallorca is that they will miss their top goal scorer Budimir, who scored 12 goals, but is now suspended because of the yellow cards. Sevilla and Rodriguez both scored 5 goals for Mallorca this season. Fabri is injured, while Pedraza is still questionable for this game. Another thing that has been bothering Mallorca is their defense that conceded 56 goals so far. This wasn’t a good season for Mallorca, but they are not giving up, and if they can win a couple of more games, Mallorca just might buy themselves a chance to stay in LaLiga.
Atletico hasn’t lost any of their last 7 home games against Mallorca, while their home record this season is 10-5-1. Mallorca has had plenty of success against Atletico, but that was back when they had more quality on their team. The odds are steep on Atletico, but I don’t think Mallorca can play another game as they did against Celta, especially with their top goal scorer missing this game. I think Atletico gets the job done at home.
