Aalborg is welcoming Brondby IF to Aalborg Portland Park in round 5 of the Danish Superliga Championship Round.
Aalborg is not playing well, and they haven’t for a while now. With 3 losses and only 1 win since the Championship Round has started, Aalborg is in the last place in the Championship Round standings with only 41 points. Aalborg has scored solid 48 goals this season, but with 42 conceded goals, their defense is the worst of all the teams in the Championship Round. Earlier this week, Aalborg had a chance to win a trophy in the Danish cup competition, DBU Pokalen, but they lost 0-2 against Sonderjyske, the team that has failed to qualify to the Championship Round. In their last Superliga game against Aarhus on the road, Aalborg was solid with 53% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, and 74% of the correct passes. Aalborg was the better team in this game and has deservedly so won this match 1-4. Andersen has score 10 goals and added 8 assists for Aalborg this season, while Van Weert added 8 goals. Kouzine is the only injured player for Aalborg and he will not be playing against this season. It’s not easy being the worst team in the Championship Round, but someone has got to do it. I’m sure that Aalborg expected more of this season, but at least they were able to get to the Championship Round.
Brondby is in 4th place in the standings with 48 points, but they still have a good chance of getting to the Europa League spot as they are only 6 points away from Aarhus. With 50 scored goals, Brondby is one of the best offensive teams in Superliga, and if only their defense was a little bit better, Brondby could be a few spots higher in the standings. They have conceded 38 goals in 3 games. The first three games of the Championship Round ended in a draw for Brondby, but they were finally able to win a game in their most recent match against Nordsjaeland on the road. Brondby has had 52% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, and 83% of the correct passes in this match, and Brondby has won this game 0-2. Wilczek has scored massive 17 goals for Brondby this season, while Kaiser added 8 goals. Hedlund scored 5 goals and assisted for 10 more. Mensah has a hamstring injury, while Hedlund and Mraz are recovering from the Coronavirus and should be ready to play in about a week. Brondby is one of the most iconic teams in Denmark, but they have been pretty far from the top in recent years. Getting to the Europa League spot would mean a great deal to Brondby, and hoe they get there, but they will need to keep winning games.
Brondby is in a slightly better form than Aalborg and they haven’t lost any of their last 4 games. I’m going to side with Brondby here because Aalborg has played a game just a few days ago and the player might be tired, and they lost in the finals of the DBU Pokalen. I think Brondby gets a win here to keep their hopes of the Europa League alive.
