Liverpool host Aston Villa on Sunday, July 5th at Anfield. Will Liverpool bounce back after a terrible loss to Manchester City earlier in the week, or will they allow Aston Villa to gain some points to get themselves out of the relegation zone?
Liverpool was absolutely destroyed by Manchester City earlier in the week, losing 4-0 to the 2018/19 Champions. In the first 20ish minutes, both teams seemed to be even and it could have been anyone's game, however, after the 25th minute, it was a Manchester City masterclass. Liverpool of course did not have much to play for as they have already won the league, but still is was shocking to see them being destroyed like that. Manchester City sent a message in that match, showing them that they will have to be at their absolute best if they want to ever win the league again. Liverpool needs to improve at Anfield on Sunday.
Aston Villa played a very tight match against Wolves in which they were very unlucky not to gain any points from the match. Wolves were not as good as they have been all season and Villa seemed like they could perhaps gain a point or more, but a Leander Dendoncker goal in the 62nd minute stole the match for Wolves. Aston Villa are desperate for points and perhaps they see light at the end of the tunnel as Liverpool do not need anymore points to win the league.
The reverse fixture in the Premier League between these two sides was a Liverpool 2-1 victory. I am not mentioning the 5-0 Aston Villa victory in the Carabao Cup as Liverpool literally played their youth squad rather than their main team. Liverpool have had Aston Villa's number for as long as you can remember and it will be interesting to see if they will be nice to Aston Villa on Sunday. Liverpool have no title to play for anymore as they've already won the league and perhaps Villa sees a point to be taken. However, Liverpool needs to bounce back and not embarrass themselves more after such a terrible performance against Manchester City. I imagine another 2-1 scoreline, so take Liverpool & over 2.5 goals.
