Southampton host Manchester City on Sunday, July 5th at St. Mary's Stadium in what is going to be a goal-fest of a match.
Southampton was very solid in their most recent Premier League match, beating Watford 3-1. Southampton took control of the match early and did not let go. The best player out there was definitely Danny Ings, bagging himself a brace. Southampton are not close to the relegation zone and do not have much to play for, but their victory against Watford showed us they are still determined to continuously give it their all. Southampton will now be very weary of their next opponent, Manchester City, as they are surely not going to be able to play the way they did against Watford?
Manchester City gave Liverpool a guard of honor before their encounter earlier this week, and then they absolutely destroyed them. Manchester City made a statement against Liverpool. City are going to win the league next season in my opinion as they are going to put all their focus into that as they don't have to play the Champions League. City are the best team in the league when they are at their best, and they will surely improve before next season. Liverpool had their fun, but City is not going to let it happen again. Manchester City opened the scoring in the 25th minute, and it was a goal every 10 minutes in the first half after that. By the end of the 45 minutes, they were 3-0 up and Liverpool just seemed depleted. In the second half, many expected Liverpool to at least get a consolation goal, but City did not allow for anything to threaten them. City went up 4-0, potentially 5-0 if VAR did not disallow the last goal. City showed us they are not to be underestimated.
The reverse fixture in this match was a 2-1 Manchester City victory, but I think this is going to be a much harsher scoreline against Southampton on Sunday. Man City are highly motivated to show us they are better than Liverpool and they will come out here and score as many as possible. If they can put 4 past Liverpool, I am sure they can do the same against Southampton.
