AC Milan is hosting Juventus in a derby match of round 31 in Italian Serie A.
Milan is playing surprisingly well since the restart; at least I am surprised. In their last 4 games, Milan has 3 wins and 1 draw, and with this nice stretch, Milan is now in 7th place with 46 points, just 2 points behind Napoli in the last Europa League spot. Milan’s offense is warming up and they have scored 39 goals so far, while their defense has been solid with 37 conceded goals. Rebic has been Milan’s best striker with 9 goals, while Hernandez and Calhanoglu added 5 goals each. Calhanoglu also has 3 assists. Duarte, Musacchio, and Castillejo are all injured and will not be in the lineup. In their most recent Serie A game against Lazio on the road, I would dare to say that Milan has had their best game of the season. With 53% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, and 86% of the correct passes, Milan was dominant in this game and they have deservedly so won this match 0-3. Milan has had their struggles over the last few years, and they still do, but it looks like they are on the right path, but it will take a lot of work to get back to their old glory days from the late 90’ and early 2000’.
Juventus has won all four of their games in Serie A since the restart while scoring 13 goals during that stretch, and conceding only 2 goals. With 75 points, Juventus is in first place in the standings, and what is keeping them there is their defense. Juventus has conceded only 26 goals this season, the least in Serie A. in the attacking end, Juventus has scored 63 goals so far, and it doesn’t look like they plan on stopping anytime soon, especially with Ronaldo getting into the goal-scoring form. Ronaldo is Juventus’ top goal scorer with 25 goals, while Dybala added 11 goals and 6 assists. Demiral, Khedira, Sandro, and De Sciglio are all injured and will not be in the lineup. In their latest Serie A game against their city rival Torino, Juventus was dominant with 51% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, and 87% of the correct passes. With 2 goals in each half, Juventus has won this game 4-1. Juventus has a few tough games ahead of them, and this is the time and place where their game and form will truly be put on the test, and their ambitions to win the title as well. Juventus might be playing the best soccer overall in Serie A, and Sarri is one of the best tacticians in Italy, but they are getting quite predictable and I have a feeling that stronger teams might know how to exploit that.
The match between Milan and Juventus is one of the biggest derbies in Italy, and Milan hasn’t won any of their last 7 home game against Juventus. Both Milan and Juventus are in good form and they are scoring a solid amount of goals. I’m hoping that Milan can win this one to help Lazio, but you can never write off Juventus. I will stick with the goals here.
