Crystal Palace hosts Chelsea at Selhurst Park on Tuesday, July 7th in the Premier League. Will Chelsea put more pressure on Leicester City in the top 4 or will Palace bounce back after a tough defeat on Saturday?
Crystal Palace were absolutely destroyed against Leicester City, losing 3-0. The first half was extremely tight with both teams having chances to score, but with the game still balanced. However, in the second half, Crystal Palace just gave up, Leicester came out and pushed Palace around. Leicester opened the scoring with an Ihenacho goal, and then Jamie Vary got his 100th and 101st goal in the Premier League. Palace do not have much to play for and it is not important for them to give it their all in matches. This makes it really hard to ever back them, especially towards the end of the season which has been very chaotic.
Chelsea were superb in their match against Watford on Saturday, winning the fixture 3-0. Giroud started the match and he made the difference in my opinion. Giroud opened the scoring in the 28th minute and then Chelsea never looked back. Chelsea were controlling the game and bounced back superbly from their shocking defeat to West Ham. Chelsea had 72% possession and had 20 shots, 9 of which were on target. Chelsea are very adamant of securing a Champions League spot for next season, and they need to make sure they are on top of their game in these last 5 matches as Manchester City are very close behind them.
The reverse fixture between these two teams finished in a 2-0 Chelsea victory. This match is not important for Crystal Palace and I do not see them giving it their all to claim anything from this match. On the other hand, Chelsea are stuck in between Leicester and Manchester United, therefore they are very motivated to perform at their best in these last 5 matches. I expect Chelsea to come out and perform as they did against Watford. Chelsea will probably win this match 2-0 or 3-1, but to be safe I'll take the -1.5.
