Genoa is welcoming Napoli to Luigi Ferraris in round 31 in Italian Serie A.
Genoa is still waiting on their first win since the restart, and now they have 2 losses and 2 draws, alongside 11 conceded goals, and 6 scored goals in their last 4 games. Genoa is just 2 points outside the relegation zone, in 17th place with 27 points, 37 scored goals, and massive 58 conceded goals, but surprisingly, there is a team in Serie A that conceded more goals. Pandev has scored 8 goals for Genoa, while Criscito added 7 goals. Ghiglione added 5 assists. Radovanovic and Criscito are still injured, while Ankersen is questionable. In their latest Serie A game against Udinese on the road, Genoa was a slightly better team with 54% of ball possession, 4 shots on target, 4 corner kicks, and 82% of the correct passes. Genoa was losing 2-0 until the 81st minute when Pandev scored, in the 97th minute, Genoa scored another goal and this game ended in a 2-2 draw. The last few games of the season will be tough for Genoa as they are feeling big pressure from Lecce behind them, but I believe that Genoa has enough quality and depth to stay outside the relegation zone and to stay in Serie A next season.
Napoli is playing well after the restart, well, except that hiccup against Atalanta where they didn’t even score a goal. Winning the Coppa Italia against Juventus was certainly a huge boost for Gattuso’s troops, which we can see on their game. In their last 4 games in Serie A, Napoli has 3 wins and 1 loss, 7 scored goals, and 4 conceded goals. In their most recent Serie A game against Roma at home, Napoli was the better team with 59% of ball possession, huge 10 shots on goal, 8 corner kicks, and 89% of the correct passes. The first half of this game was slow, but we saw 3 goals in the second half, and in the end, Napoli has won this match 2-0. There are no injuries in Napoli, but Demme and Koulibaly are suspended because of the yellow cards. Milik is Napoli’s top goalscorer with 10 goals, while Mertens added 7 goals and 4 assists. Callejon and Insigne both added 6 assists. Napoli is now in 6th place in the standings with 48 points, same as Roma ahead of them, but only 2 points more than Milan behind them. The race for the Champions League is over, but the one for the Europa League is still on, and boy, it’s exciting. Three teams are going neck in neck for 2 Europa League spots, and this will be very interesting until the very last game of the season, but if Napoli continues to play this well, I’m confident they will end up in one of those two spots.
Napoli is the better team here and there is no more discussion for me. The trends are on Napoli’s side, and I see them winning this match on the road.
