Getafe is hosting Villarreal at Coliseum Alfonso Perez in round 35 in Spanish LaLiga.
Getafe has been struggling since the restart and they have one of their last 7 LaLiga games, but by some miracle, Getafe is still in the Europa League spot, in 6th place in the standings with 53 points. Overall, Getafe has been playing well this season, and they have been solid on both ends. Getafe has scored 42 goals while conceding 31 goals. In their last LaLiga game against Osasuna on the road, Getafe has had 52% of ball possession, 1 shot on goal, 2 corner kicks, and low 59% of the correct passes. This was one of the worst games I saw in a long time and it ended just like it should have, in a 0-0 draw. Jaime Mata has scored 11 goals for Getafe, while Rodriguez added 10 goals. Cucurella added 5 assists. Manojlovic is the only injured player, while Cabaco is still questionable. Whether Getafe ends up getting into the Europa League or no, this season was a success for them, and they can be proud of themselves. The good news for Getafe is that neither of the teams that are behind them is playing well at the moment, and only because of that, Getafe might actually be lucky enough to enter the Europa League.
Villarreal has been playing outstanding soccer since the restart and they have won 5 games, 1 game ended in a draw, while they lost their most recent match. With this fantastic streak, Villarreal has climbed the standings to high 5th place where they have 54 points, and they are just 6 points away from the Champions League. The race for the Europa League and the Champions League is tight, and Villarreal may end up losing everything, but seeing how good they are playing, I think they will get to the Europa League. Villarreal has scored 54 goals so far this season, and Moreno has scored 16 of those goals, while Cazorla added 8 goals and 8 assists. Mori and Guerra are both injured and will not be in the lineup. In their latest LaLiga game against Barcelona at home, Villarreal was being dominated and has had only 32% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, and 81% of the correct passes. Villarreal didn’t stand a chance against Barcelona and they lost this game 1-4. I like Villarreal and the soccer they are playing. Fast, precise, courageous, and offensive soccer, but maybe if they focused just a tad more on their defense, Villarreal would be an even stronger team.
Getafe hasn’t scored a goal in two games, while Villarreal is capable of scoring a ton of goals, but their defense is shaky. With that being said, I will stick with goals because I’m not sure how Villarreal will react after their defeat against Barcelona a few days ago.
