Manchester City host Newcastle United on Wednesday, July 8th at the Etihad Stadium. Will Manchester City bounce back after a shocking defeat to Southampton, or will Newcastle United also gain some points of City?
Manchester City were completely shocked not to have gotten anything form their last Premier League match, losing 1-0 to Southampton. Manchester City went from defeating the Premier League Champions, Liverpool, 4-0, to losing 1-0 to a side which should not even be considered to beat Manchester City. City had nearly 75% possession and took 26 shots, 6 of which were on target, but still did not manage to find the back of the net. I think the mistake was not to put Kevin De Bruyne in until the 60th minute. KDB is the best player in the Premier League, and to leave him out of the side (even though they have nothing to play for) is a bad decision. If KDB starts here, I expect goals and many of them.
Newcastle United does not really have anything to play with as they are too far from European championships spots and they are very far from the relegation zone. Having won and drawn their last two matches, Newcastle is not in bad form, but the only threat they have is Saint-Maximin. Newcastle are in for a tough ride here at the Etihad as City have to bounce back in style.
The last match between these two sides was just over a week ago in the FA Cup in which City won 2-0 in the quarterfinals. I think this match is going to be even more of destruction by City as they have a point to prove. City were embarrassed not to win against Southampton and I do not see them even giving Newcastle United a chance here. The line is 3.5 on goals and I think City is going to put on a goalscoring party. Kevin De Bruyne needs to start because without him they are lacking the heart of the team, but if he starts, I do not see any other result than City & over 3.5 goals at +105.
