West Ham hosts Burnley on Wednesday, July 8th at the London Stadium in what is going to be a very tight encounter. Will West Ham use the momentum gained from their Chelsea victory, or will Burnley try and claim a Europa League spot.
West Ham followed up their incredible performance against Chelsea in a very tight 2-2 draw with Newcastle United. West Ham could have won the game if they were able to defend when ahead, but they are still happy to have finished the match with a draw. West Ham's last two results have allowed them to create a little bit of distance from the bottom 3, but I am adamant they need to work hard in these last few games to ensure their Premier League safety. The hammers are good on the attack, but if they are not solid in their defending, they can lose matches easily, especially against a side like Burnley.
Burnley has been quite solid since the restart of the Premier League, winning two and drawing one of their last 3 matches. Burnley are very hurt at the moment with many key players missing, but that does not mean they are giving up on their hopes to cause a shock by qualifying for the Europa League. Burnley is 10th in the league and 3 points behind Europa League spots. If Burnley are able to get some positive results in their last 5 matches, and if other teams above them slip up, they have a chance here.
The reverse fixture between these two teams ended in a 3-0 Burnley win. However, West Ham have been quite good in their attack in their last two matches and need this win more than Burnley. Although Burnley will want to rise up the league, it is a big ask. West Ham need to ensure their safety, and 4 points distance is just not enough at the moment. West Ham and Burnley will be happy to take a point each here and that is why I am backing the draw. Neither team is a clear favorite in my opinion, so take the draw at +245.
