Everton hosts Southampton on Thursday, July 9th at Goodison Park. Will Everton bounce back after a tight loss earlier in the week, or will Southampton hurt Ancelotti's team?
Everton's last match was very tight and very disappointing. Tottenham Hotspur beat Everton 1-0 because of an own-goal by Michael Keane. Harry Winks hit a shot which was not going anywhere near the goal, but Keane ran into it and the ball bounced back into the net. This goal was the only difference in the match as Tottenham did not really deserve more goals and Everton did not do enough to deserve one. Everton has nothing to play for but they are still motivated to perform well in these last 5 matches. The loss to Tottenham will have hurt Ancelotti as he knew that if Everton put a bit more effort in, they could have gotten something out of that game.
Southampton fans were absolutely stunned after their last match. Southampton beat Manchester City with a 1-0 scoreline. City had 26 shots, 6 of which were on target, but the difference in the game was Che Adams 40-yard shot which shook Ederson. Manchester City should have won that game but they did not give it their best effort. Southampton were lucky to win that match and they are definitely confident from that victory. I think Southampton is a solid defensive team but not as good on the attack. Everton will not take them lightly.
The reverse fixture between these two teams ended in a 2-1 victory for Everton. Everton are the better team, and although Southampton beat one of the best teams in the league in Manchester City, I see this favouring the blues. Everton could have gotten more out of the Tottenham game and I am sure that Ancelotti will have had a go at his players to give more effort in the box. Both these teams have nothing to play for, but I think Everton is more motivated to have positive results in these last 5 matches. Take Everton at +105 to win the match in what is going to be a 2-1 or 1-0 type of victory.
