FC Cincinnati and Columbus Crew renew pleasantries as part of the Hell is Real rivalry as part of the MLS is Back tournament group stage from Orlando, Florida on Saturday night.
FC Cincinnati come into this restart tournament still looking for their first victory of the 2020 campaign after starting the season with a pair of one goal losses to start the year, first to the New York Red Bulls and then following that up with a defeat against Atlanta United. For Cincinnati, Allan Cruz, Jurgen Locadia and Yuya Kubo each have a goal for FC Cincinnati. As a team, Cincinnati has produced 19 attempts at goal this season with 9 of those shot attempts hitting the target.
Columbus Crew on the other hand, got off to a strong start after being pegged by many as a team to watch in the Eastern Conference this season, heading into the hiatus with a win and a draw through their first two games. Columbus started the year with a solid 1-0 win over New York City FC in their home opener before going on the road and earning a hard-fought 1-1 draw with the Seattle Sounders. Gyasi Zardes and Lucas Zelarayan each have a goal to share the early scoring lead for the Crew this season. As a team, Columbus Crew have mustered up 15 shot attempts with 9 of those attempts ending up on target so far this season.
For as much as FC Cincinnati struggled in their maiden voyage season last year, they battled the Crew pretty hard, earning a draw before taking the loss on the road last season. Cincinnati also had a pair of tough games to start the year, but even in defeat, it appeared to be a big step in the right direction for Cincy. With that said, this is still a rivalry game and while The first three games saw a combined five goals, the two head-to-head meetings between the Crew and Cincinnati each saw four goals apiece last season and I think we see our first dose of fireworks here barring anything on Friday or early Saturday. Give me the over in this spot.
