Sheffield United host Chelsea on Saturday, July 11th in what is going to be a very fun Premier League fixture at Bramall Lane. Will Chelsea cement themselves even further in the Champions League spots, or will Sheffield United get back into the Europa League spots?
Sheffield United played an incredibly tight match against Wolves earlier in the week and they were able to steal a victory at the 93rd minute. Both teams had opportunities to score and the game was fairly even. Wolves were of course the favourite to win the match going into it, but they did not seem as good as they could have played and this allowed Sheffield's John Egan to get a last-minute header to steal the 3 points. Those 3 points has allowed Sheffield to climb back up to 7th in the league, 1 point above Arsenal and 1 point behind Wolves. If Sheffield United get some positive results out of their last 4 matches they could make sure they are in the Europa League next season, an incredible achievement for this team.
Chelsea is coming off a very tight and goal-filled victory against Crystal Palace. Chelsea went 2-0 up against Palace but Palace did not give up. Palace got the game to 2-1, and shortly after Chelsea went 3-1 up. Crystal Palace showed us the weaknesses in Chelsea's defense and scored another one. You wouldn't expect Chelsea to concede 2 goals against Palace and the London blues need to improve their game if they want to get anything out of Sheffield on Saturday.
The reverse fixture between these two teams ended in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge. I expect a tight match where it is going to be hard to predict things like goals. I think Chelsea will win this, but it could be any of these scorelines, 1-0, 2-1, 3-2. I see Sheffield making it hard for Chelsea, but eventually the 3rd place team in the league should come through this match with all 3 points and cement themselves even more into the Champions League spots for next season. Take Chelsea at -170.
