Burnley host Wolverhampton on Wednesday, July 15th at Turf Moor. Will Wolves be able to maintain their Europa League spot, or will Burnley cause an upset?
Burnley was quite solid in their last performance, getting a 1-1 draw at Anfield against Liverpool. Liverpool have not drawn or lost at Anfield in the Premier League in over a year and it was quite shocking that it was Burnley who ended that record. Burnley were very solid in defence, they just made sure they did not leave any gaps open after they conceded the first goal. Liverpool did not give it their best effort as they do not have much to play for other than reaching 100 points in the Premier League. Burnley will want to use this momentum gained to win at home against Wolves and potentially rise up the table with only 3 games left to play.
Wolverhampton made easy work of Everton last week, beating them 3-0. Wolves has no more hopes of making the Champions League in my opinion now as Manchester City's ban has been lifted. However, they are still quite solid in their ability to make the Europa League. Wolves is a club not many expected to make European football in the last couple of years, but they have been quite solid in competitions like the Europa League. I expect Wolves to give it their absolute best in these last 3 games as they want to get something out of this long season.
The reverse fixture between these two sides ended in a 1-1 draw. Both sides will be motivated to win this match, but if push comes to shove, I think Wolves is going to give it absolutely everything. Wolves does not want to lose their Europa League spot, and they know that if they take their eye off the prize for even one second in these last 3 games, they will quickly fall down the table. I think Burnley's only motivation is to rise higher up in the top half of the table, but there is not much else other than that. I would take Wolves to win this tight encounter.
