Sampdoria is hosting Cagliari at Luigi Ferraris in round 33 in Italian Serie A.
Sampdoria has been playing well over their last 4 games where they have 3 wins and 1 loss. With these 9 points, Sampdoria has given themselves some breathing room and they are now in 14th place with 35 points, 6 points outside the relegation zone. Sampdoria’s offense has improved, and they now have 39 scored goals in 32 games this season, but their offense has remained bad, and Sampdoria has conceded massive 54 goals. In their latest Serie A game against Udinese on the road, Sampdoria was fantastic with 53% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, and 84% of the correct passes. The half-time result was 1-1, but Sampdoria was better in the second half and they scored 2 more goals, and Sampdoria has won this match 1-3. Quagliarella is Sampdoria’s best player and a top goal scorer with 10 goals, while Gabbiadini added 9 goals. Tonelli and Vieira are both still injured. I think that Sampdoria is the better team than most of the teams at the bottom of Serie A, if only they could improve their defense a little bit, Sampdoria’s life would be so much easier for the rest of the season.
Cagliari is in safe, 11th place in the standings with 41 points, but their game has cooled off a lot since the first half of the season. Cagliari has only 1 loss in their last 6 games, alongside 3 draws, and 2 victories, but Cagliari hasn’t won any of their last 4 games in Serie A. in their most recent Serie A game against Lecce at home, Cagliari has had 53% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, and solid 87% of the correct passes. This match ended in a 0-0 draw. In many ways, Cagliari reminds me of Atletico Madrid, just a lot less talented, which is enough for where Cagliari is right now. Offensively, Cagliari is decent this season with 48 scored goals, but they conceded 46 goals which are not that good. Joao Pedro has scored 17 goals for Cagliari so far this season, but I don’t think they will be able to keep him in the club because there are a lot of interested parties for his services. Simeone, the son of Atletico Madrid’s coach Diego Simeone, added 10 goals. Nainggolan added 6 goals and 6 assists this season. Oliva, Pavoletti, and Pellegrini are all still injured. Cagliari has a lot of talented players on their team, but I think they need the coaching change to get that talent to the surface, but to be honest, I don’t see it happening as Cagliari has had a decent season and they are far from the relegation zone.
When playing at home, Sampdoria has not lost to Cagliari in their last 6 games. I have a feeling this might be a pretty boring game that could go either way. I don’t expect a lot of chances in this game, and for that reason, I will pick something I don’t pick often, I will go with under here.
