Leicester City host Sheffield United on Thursday, July 16th at King Power Stadium in what is a battle for Champions League vs. a battle for Europa League. Who will come out on top?
Leicester City is very lucky to still be in 4th place in the Premier League after having been absolutely destroyed by Bournemouth last week. Leicester lost 4-1 to Bournemouth in a match which was very important for the foxes. Leicester went 1-0 up but in the second half they just gave everything away to Bournemouth. In the match, one of Leicester City's main defenders, Caglar Soyuncu, was sent off and has given them a lot of work to do here without one of their main men in the starting lineup. Leicester are lucky that Manchester United drew 2-2 against Southampton earlier in the week as it allowed them to be able to maintain their 4th place spot in the Premier League.
Sheffield United have been in incredible form as of recent, beating the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea with ease. Sheffield United are now 8th in the league and a victory against Leicester City could put them in 6th place, being in the spots which allow for Europa League qualification. Sheffield United are motivated, and their team can defend very well against the best teams. I expect Sheffield United to give it their all in these last 3 games to secure their first-ever European football opportunity.
The reverse fixture between these two sides ended in a 2-1 Leicester City victory. Both these teams have clear motivations and they need these points to maintain their hopes alive for European football. However, I think Leicester will win this match. When it comes to this point of the season, it comes down to mentality. Leicester has faced these types of pressures and adversity before, whilst Sheffield United has not. I expect a tight match, but eventually Leicester City will find their winning goal, most probably scored by Jamie Vardy, and take all 3 points at King Power Stadium, maintaining their Champions League qualification hopes alive. Take Leicester at +100.
