Southampton host Brighton on Thursday, July 16th at St. Mary's Stadium in what is going to be an incredibly tight Premier League fixture. Will Southampton be able to capitalise on the momentum gained at Manchester United, or will Brighton get back on track?
Southampton were very lucky to pull off a draw against Manchester United earlier in the week, with a 2-2 scoreline. United dominated most of the match and they should have been a couple goals ahead, but they failed to convert their chances. Southampton were very smart in being able to defend to ensure the scoreline did not get too far away from them. Southampton eventually capitalised in the 96th minute, when Michael Obafemi scored a header past David De Gea to secure the draw. United were shocked, and Southampton have been showing us that they can challenge some big teams.
Brighton has been quite shocking in their last few matches, losing 3 out of their last 4. Brighton are a solid team, and have had good victories such as their victory against Arsenal since the Premier League restart. However, they do not have the motivation to give it their all in my opinion. Brighton are safe from relegation and are too far from any important spots on the table as they are sat in 15th place. Brighton are not going to give it 110% in any of these last 3 matches and it is hard to back them to get any points in my opinion at this stage of the season.
The reverse fixture between these two sides ended in a 2-0 Southampton victory, and I see this result happening again on Thursday. Southampton won 1-0 against Manchester City a week ago and they drew 2-2 against Manchester United earlier in the week. Southampton are giving it 110% in their matches even if they have nothing to play for, and it is hard not to back them when they are coming against a team which is just conceding goals left, right, and centre like Brighton. Take Southampton at +125 to take the victory at St. Mary's Stadium.
