DC United and the New England Revolution square off in group stage action as part of the MLS is Back tournament from Orlando, Florida on Friday night.
DC United come into this match fresh off of a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Toronto FC in their opening group stage contest. In the draw with Toronto, DC fell behind in the 12th minute before TFC doubled their advantage in the 44th minute to make it 2-0. DC were dealt a blow just before the half when Junior Moreno was shown his second yellow card and was sent off immediately after. The second half would see DC rally, with Federico Higuain pulling a goal back in the 84th and Frederic Brilliant living up to his namesake in the first minute of second half stoppage time to tie the game at two and salvage a point for DC United.
The New England Revolution on the other hand, sit at the top of the group as the only team with a win after the Revs picked up a 1-0 win over the Montreal Impact in their last match. In the victory over Montreal, the first half was squeaky clean, with no bookings and no scoring with New England outshooting Montreal 10-3 in terms of attempts at goal and 2-0 in regards to shots on goal. New England would find their breakthrough goal in the 56th minute as Gustavo Bou pushed New England in front. In the end, New England would ride Bou’s marker to the finish line and picking up the win, avenging a loss to Montreal from earlier in the year.
As far as this game goes, I’m having a hard time picking a side as both have been a mixed bag in their first couple of games and both had a positive result to start the tournament. A draw wouldn’t be a positive result for many, but when you’re down two goals in the 84th minute and salvage a point, that’s a success in my book. I just think these two sides are as even as it gets, and like the last two meetings that have ended all square, I’m projecting a 3rd consecutive score draw here so I’ll side with the draw as my main bet for the match as well as some side action on the correct score of 1-1 or 2-2 for big plus money.
