Bournemouth host Southampton on Sunday, July 19th at Vitality Stadium in the English Premier League. Will Bournemouth give themselves a chance to get out of the relegation zone, or will Southampton spoil the party?
Southampton drew 1-1 against Brighton in their last march on Thursday, July 16th at St. Mary's Stadium. Southampton had 68% possession and 20 shots, 5 of which were on goal. However, it was Brighton who opened up the scoring with a Neil Maupay strike in the 17th minute. Southampton were the better team and they had so many chances, however, they did not give it their all in converting their chances. Finally, in the 66th minute, Danny Ings scored to give Southampton a point. Southampton does not have much to play for in these last 2 matches as they are safe from the relegation zone and too far from Europa League or Champions League spots, therefore it will be interesting to see how much effort they put in this match.
Bournemouth actually put on a solid performance against Manchester City in their last match on Wednesday, July 15th at the Etihad Stadium. Manchester City were on a 10 goal unanswered streak in their last few matches, however, although they went 2-0 up in the first half against Bournemouth, the match ended 2-1. Bournemouth had 13 shots, 3 of which were on target, which is more than Manchester City, with 7 shots, 3 of which were on target. Bournemouth had these statistics with only 22% possession. If Bournemouth can convert their chances in these last two matches, it will be a very tight end to the Premier League season.
The reverse fixture between these two sides ended in a 3-1 Bournemouth victory at St. Mary's Stadium. This is going to be a Bournemouth victory in my opinion as Southampton have nothing to play for, and Bournemouth have everything to play for. I expect Bournemouth to give it their all and ensure that they stand a chance of remaining in the Premier League if teams like Watford or West Ham slip up in their final matches. Take Bournemouth at +140.
