Brighton host Newcastle United on Monday, July 20th at Falmer Stadium in the English Premier League.
Brighton earned a 1-1 draw against Southampton on Thursday in a very tough and tight match in the second half of the table. Brighton started out the match by scoring in 17th minute with a Neil Maupay strike. However, Brighton were not the better team on Thursday. Southampton had 68% possession, 20 shots, 5 of which were on target, whilst Brighton had 32% possession, 9 shots, 2 of which were on target. Brighton allowed for the pressure to come onto them after scoring the opener and this proved to be what broke them as it allowed Southampton to dictate play. Southampton kept pressing and finally in the second half in the 66th minute, Danny Ings scored the equalizer. Neither of these teams had much to play for as it is the end of the season, but they were very tight on both ends in their play.
Newcastle United will be very disappointed with their latest result, losing 3-1 against Tottenham Hotspur at home. Newcastle had 52% possession, 20 shots, 5 of which were on target, but only managed to score 1 goal. On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur has 7 shots, 5 of which were on target, and scored 3 goals. Tottenham have been extremely lucky in their last few matches and in my opinion Newcastle United was the better team in that match. Newcastle will be determined to bounce back, but will their inability to convert chances ensure their defeat?
The reverse fixture between these two sides ended in a 0-0 draw at St. James' Park. I see this match being more free-flowing, with many more goal scoring opportunities. I think Brighton is the better team and they will dominate possession as they did in the reverse fixture. I expect this to be a fun match, but at the end of the day, Brighton will be more focused to win this and show us that same energy they did in matches against Arsenal earlier in the season. Take Brighton at -110 to win.
