Sheffield United host Everton on Monday, July 20th at Bramall Lane in what is going to be a very tight encounter at the business end of the Premier League. Will Sheffield United come closer to securing a Europa League spot, or will Everton spoil the party?
Sheffield United will be disappointed in their performance on Thursday, losing 2-0 to Leicester City and putting more pressure on themselves to have to qualify for the Europa League. Sheffield United has 46% possession but only got 1 shot on target, whilst Leicester City had 7 shots on target. Sheffield United have been very solid recently, beating the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea with ease. Therefore, they know that they are more than capable of getting all 6 points from these last two Premier League matches of the season. However, it will all come down to how Tottenham and Wolves perform also in these last two matches.
Everton managed to scrape a draw against Aston Villa on Thursday, with the match finishing 1-1. Aston Villa deserved that victory as they were very effective in their back four. Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa scored in the 72nd minute and it looked like Aston Villa would give themselves hope at the bottom of the table. However, Theo Walcott and Everton scored in the 87th minute to secure a point. Everton have been quite terrible in their recent matches, starting out incredibly well and looking as if they would open the scoring, however, after 10-20 minutes, Everton just give up and let the game come to them.
The reverse fixture between these two sides ended in a 2-0 Sheffield United victory. I see this match ending in a similar fashion. Sheffield United really want to make the Europa League and they are very motivated to give it everything on Monday. Everton, on the other hand, have nothing to play for and they are not in their best form as of recent. I expect Sheffield United to play like they did against Tottenham and Chelsea and they will definitely bounce back from a disappointing defeat against Leicester City last week.
