Wolverhampton host Crystal Palace on Monday, July 20th at Molineux Stadium in what is going to be a very important match for Wolverhampton to maintain their spot in the Europa League for next season. Will Crystal Palace come and spoil the party?
Wolves would have liked to get more out of their match against Burnley earlier in the week as they lost 2 points at the last second. Wolves were the dominant team throughout the match, getting 14 shots off, 5 of which were on target. However, Wolves only opened the scoring in the 76th minute with a Raul Jimenez strike. Wolves then just began to defend and hoped to maintain that slim 1-0 lead. Chris Wood came extremely close to scoring in the 94th minute and missed by small margins, however, just 2 minutes later, Wolves gave away a sloppy penalty and allowed Chris Wood to get redemption for that missed chance and give Burnley a point. Wolves are 6th in the league and 1 point ahead of Tottenham in 7th. If Wolves are to maintain their spot in the Europa League they will need to ensure they get the most out of these last two Premier League matches.
Crystal Palace were quite unlucky not to get anything out of their last match against Manchester United. Crystal Palace were not given a clear penalty and they were also disallowed a goal which was offside by about a centimeter or two. Crystal Palace have nothing to play for in these last two matches but they definitely showed us on Thursday that they are here to still play their best.
The reverse fixture between these two sides ended in a 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park. Wolves is the better side in my opinion and they need this match more than Crystal Palace do. I expect Wolves to give it their all from the get go here and put Crystal Palace under extreme pressure to maintain their spot in the Europa League. I expect a 2-0 or 2-1 victory for Wolves, but to be safe I'd take Wolves and over 1.5 goals at +105.
