Liverpool host Chelsea on Wednesday, July 22nd at Anfield in a very important match for Chelsea in the business end of the Premier League season.
Chelsea are coming off a superb performance against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium in the FA Cup Semifinals. Chelsea won that match 3-1 and really never gave Manchester United a chance to get themselves going. Chelsea played 3 at the back and it really looked like the best tactic for them. I am sure that Frank Lampard's men will come out in the same formation on Wednesday against Liverpool, and if they play the way they did against Manchester United, there is no chance for Liverpool. Chelsea are currently 3rd in the league, but they need to make sure they can win these last two matches as both Leicester City and Manchester United are very close to taking their spot and Champions League hopes.
Liverpool, the 2019/20 Premier League Champions, have just not been the same since they won the title mathematically. Liverpool have lost two and drawn one of their matches in their last 5 and this is not what we are used to seeing with Liverpool. Liverpool seem to have turned off the engine, especially in their last match when they lost 2-1 to Arsenal. Arsenal had much less of the possession but a mistake by Virgil Van Djik and a superb goal by Reiss Nelson allowed Arsenal to take the match and the 3 points. I don't expect Liverpool to give it their all in these last two matches.
The reverse fixture between these two sides ended in a 2-1 Liverpool victory at Stamford Bridge. I expect this to be the complete opposite as Liverpool have nothing to play for anymore and are looking towards their holidays and then next season. On the other hand, Chelsea are looking to make sure they qualify for the Champions League and a win against Liverpool would be an incredible statement before their FA Cup Final against Arsenal. I expect Chelsea to come out, dominate possession and show us again how Liverpool have turned the engines off.
