Manchester United host West Ham United on Wednesday, July 22nd at Old Trafford in what is going to be a season-defining match for the Red Devils.
Manchester United got absolutely destroyed by Chelsea on the weekend, losing 3-1 in the FA Cup semifinal and they just did not even have a chance of winning that match. Since the beginning of the match, Chelsea just were stopping United from gaining any momentum, and the Red Devils were lucky to even get a consolation goal when Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty in the 85th minute. As I predicted in that match, Chelsea were in better form and United had struggled in their two prior matches coming into the semifinal. However, not all hope is lost for positive results this season for United. Earlier on Sunday, Leicester City lost 3-0 to Tottenham Hostpur, which allows Manchester United to move up to fourth place in the league as long as they get a point from the match.
West Ham United sort of secured their Premier League safety for this season after defeating Watford last week. West Ham are now 16th in the league with 37 points, 6 ahead of 18th and 19th place. West Ham will now not have much to play for as they are almost certain to retain their Premier League status. West Ham are really looking towards next season now and what they can improve to ensure they are not fighting at the bottom of the table as they have this season.
The reverse fixture between these two sides ended in a 2-0 West Ham United victory. Manchester United were not the same team they are now and they are drastically better. After a shocking destruction to Chelsea on Sunday in the FA Cup Semi-Final, Manchester United need to bounce back. The Red Devils need to get at least a point here to ensure their top four hopes and be able to play in the Champions League next season. West Ham do not have much to play for now that they feel safe in 16th. I expect United to make easy work of this match, take United and over 2.5 goals.
