Chelsea host Wolverhampton on the last day of the Premier League 2019/20 season on Sunday, July 26th at Stamford Bridge. Will Chelsea secure the Champions League or will Wolves spoil the party?
Chelsea are coming off a terrible, but incredibly fun to watch, defeat to Liverpool earlier in the week. Liverpool went all out for that match as they wanted to put in one final solid performance before lifting the Premier League trophy. Liverpool quickly went up 3-0 and for every goal that Chelsea scored, they ensured they went back up. The match finished 5-3 and it really made Chelsea have to work hard on this last day in the Premier League. Chelsea are 4th in the league with 63 points. They are only 1 point ahead of Leicester City and depending on what happens between Manchester United and Leicester City on Sunday, Chelsea might not make the Champions League if they do not win here. Chelsea needs this victory and there is no other option here.
Wolves are coming off a 2-0 victory against Crystal Palace earlier in the week. Luckily for Wolves, they have nearly secured Europa League qualification thanks to Arsenal and Sheffield United's defeats earlier in the week. Wolves, however, still have Tottenham up their tail. Being in 6th place, only 1 point ahead of Tottenham means that they could lose out on Europa League qualification if they do not get a victory here and Tottenham does. Wolves will want to give it one final push, and if they end up losing, they will hope Chelsea beats Arsenal in the FA Cup so that they can gain qualification if they are in 7th.
The reverse fixture between these two sides was an absolute goal-fest. Chelsea took the victory in that match by winning 5-2. At no time did it look like Wolves could take the victory and Chelsea were just clinical. I expect this to be similar. I think Wolves could think of taking their foot off the gas as they might also expect Chelsea to beat Arsenal in the FA Cup Final. Chelsea will give it their all here, I expect a Chelsea victory.
