Brescia is hosting Sampdoria at Stadio Mario Rigamonti in round 38 in Italian Serie A.
This was a disappointing season for Brescia, even though they were newcomers to Serie A, I thought they had enough quality to stay out of the relegation zone, but I guess I was wrong because Brescia is getting relegated to Serie B. with 24 points, Brescia is in 19th place. Brescia has scored only 34 goals this season, while their defense is one of the worse in Serie A with 78 conceded goals in 37 games. Alfredo Donnarumma is Brescia’s top goalscorer with only 7 goals, while Torregrossa added 6 goals. Sandro Tonali has assisted for 6 goals, and he will be leaving for one of the bigger teams in Serie A after the season is over. Bisoli is the only injured player for Brescia. In their last Serie A game against Lazio on the road, Brescia has had 40% of ball possession, only 2 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, and 78% of accurate passes. Brescia has lost this match 2-0. I’m confident that Brescia will once again be more competitive, if not dominant in Serie B next season, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Brescia back in Serie A soon.
Sampdoria has been playing well since the restart, especially in the attacking end, but they haven’t won any of their last 3 games, and they have scored only 2 goals during this stretch. With 5 wins after the restart, Sampdoria has climbed away from the relegation zone and they have secured their Serie A spot for next season few games ago. With 41 points, 47 scored goals, and 64 conceded goals, Sampdoria is now in 15th place in the standings. In their most recent match against Milan at home, Sampdoria was the weaker team with 42% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, 5 big chances created, and solid 82% of the correct passes. These stats would have been enough to beat almost any team, but not Milan, and Sampdoria have lost this game 1-4. Quagliarella and Gabbiadini have both scored 11 goals for Sampdoria this season, while Ramirez added 7 more goals. Ekdal is the only injured player for Sampdoria, and the season is over for him. The only goal Sampdoria had this season was to stay in Serie A, and even though it was unexpectedly hard, Sampdoria has achieved that goal. Back in the 90’, Sampdoria was a big team, one of the best in Italy, and they were playing in the Champions League finals against Barcelona, but those days are now long gone, and I don’t think they will ever reach that level of fame again, at least not without a ton of money invested in the team.
This is a game that doesn’t mean anything to Brescia or Sampdoria, which is why I will pick something on goals here because I think Brescia will want to say goodbye to Serie A with at least 1 scored goal.
