Inter and Getafe are clashing in a 1-game knockout at VELTINS-Arena in Germany in Round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League.
Inter has been playing well as of late in Serie A, and they haven’t lost any of their last 8 games, but it wasn’t enough for them to take the title from Juventus. Inter ended the Serie A season in second place with 82 points, just 1 point away from Juventus at the top. With 81 scored goals in Serie A this season, Inter is the second-best offensive team, while their defense has been the best with only 36 conceded goals. Inter was the best team overall in Italy this season, but too many draws have cost them the title. Inter was also playing in the Champions League at the beginning of the season, but they ended in third place in the group stage which got Inter into the Europa League. In the first round of the knockouts, Inter has beaten Ludogorets, 0-2, and 2-1, and after that, the season was postponed. Lukaku has scored 2 goals for Inter in the Europa League so far. Sensi and Vecino are both injured, and they will not be playing in this match. Inter is the favorite in this match and competition overall, and if they can stay in this good form, I think Inter just might win a trophy this season after all.
Getafe has been struggling massively in LaLiga after the restart, and they haven’t won any of their last 6 games, and with that bad streak, Getafe has lost their Europa League spot as they ended in 8th place in the standings with 54 points. Defensively, Getafe has been great this season with only 37 conceded goals, but lack of offense was the biggest problem for Getafe as they scored only 43 goals in 38 games. The defense can get you only that far without the offense. Getafe won second place in the Europa League group stage with 12 points, and in the first round of the knockouts, Getafe has beaten Ajax. Getafe has won the first leg 2-0 while losing the second leg 2-1, but fortunately for them, it was enough to advance to Round of 16. Mata and Rodriguez have each scored 3 goals for Getafe in the Europa League, while Kenedy added 2 goals. Garcia and Kenedy both have 2 assists. There are no injuries or suspensions in Getafe as of right now, but Cabaco is ineligible to play in the Europa League. Getafe has been terrible in LaLiga after the restart, and with LaLiga season ending 2 weeks ago, Getafe has had time to regroup and work on their problems, but I’m just not sure if they have what it takes to overcome those problems that fast.
This is a tricky situation for both teams as this is a 1-game knockout, which means if you lose in this game, there is no do-over in the second leg. This match is being played at a neutral location in Germany so that neither of the teams has a home-field advantage, not that it means much without fans. Inter is the better team here, and they are in the far better form than Getafe. I see Inter advancing to the next stage.
