Manchester United is welcoming Lask to Old Trafford in the second leg of Round of 16 in the UEFA Europa League.
United has been playing really well since the restart, and the only loss they had was against Chelsea in the FA Cup. In the EPL, United ended in third place with 66 points, which qualified them for the Champions League next season, and to be completely honest, I didn’t see that happening at the start of the season. United’s defense has been outstanding this season with only 36 conceded goals, while their offense has been solid with 66 scored goals. In the Europa League, Manchester United was dominant with 10 scored goals, only 2 conceded goals, and 13 points won, and with the first place in their pocket, United has advanced to play against Club Brugge, who they knocked out. Greenwood is United’s top goalscorer in the Europa League with 5 goals, while Martial added 3 goals. Fred and Mata both have 3 assists. Tuanzebe is the only injured player for United at this time. Now that the EPL is behind them, Manchester United can focus on the Europa League, which will be tough, but I believe they have enough depth and quality, and more importantly, United is in good form. Alongside Inter, I think United is the biggest favorite to win this competition.
Lask is the team from Austria, and with 4 straight losses in their last 4 games, they are not in a good form. Lask ended the season in the Austrian Bundesliga in 4th place, which was enough for the Europa League qualifications for next season. With 67 scored goals in 32 games, Lask has been solid in the attacking end, while their defense has been the second-best in Bundesliga with 37 conceded goals. A few days ago, Lask played a friendly game against FK Senica, and they lost that match 0-2, which is just another sign of their bad form. Lask has won their group in the Europa League with 13 points, 11 scored goals, and only 4 conceded goals. In the first round of knockouts, Lask was playing against AZ Alkmaar. The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw, but Lask was great at home where they won 2-0, and with that, Lask has advanced to the next stage. Raguz has scored 5 goals for Lask in the Europa League this season, while Klauss added another 3 goals. Ranftl has 3 assists. Potzman, Goiginger, Wostry, and Grgic are all injured for Lask, and they will not play again this season. There are a lot of ineligible players for the Europa League for Lask, which could potentially be a big problem for them in this game. I personally think this was a successful season for Lask, but it ends after this game.
Manchester United has won the first leg of this matchup 0-5, and with the quality and form difference between them and Lask, I expect a similar result here. I think Manchester United will once again justify the role of the favorite, at least in this game.
