Barcelona is welcoming Napoli to Camp Nou in the second leg of Round of 16 in the Champions League.
Barcelona was playing well after the restart in LaLiga, and they had only 1 loss, but they also had 3 draws which cost them the title. With 82 points, 86 scored goals, and 38 conceded goals, Barcelona ended the season in second place, 5 points behind Real Madrid. Offensively, Barcelona was the best team in LaLiga, but their defense was worse than all the other teams in the top 4. In the Champions League, Barcelona has won their group with 14 points, 9 scored goals, and 4 conceded goals. Suarez has scored 3 goals and added 2 assists for Barcelona in the Champions League, while Messi has 2 goals and 3 assists. Griezmann added 2 more goals. Umtiti, Todibo, and Araujo are all injured, while Vidal and Busquets are both suspended because of red and yellow cards. The season started well for Barcelona, but after the fired coach Valverde, things didn’t go to the right direction for Barcelona, and their game hasn’t improved at all, I would even say they were playing worse. Barcelona has had some time to regroup after LaLiga ended, and even though the media is saying that the situation is good, and coach Setien will stay for next season as well, I’m not sure that will be the case if Barcelona doesn’t win the Champions League.
After aiming for the title in Serie A, Napoli has disappointed themselves and their fans by ending the season in 7th place with 62 points, far away from the top, but the good news for Napoli was that they won Coppa Italia title, and with that, Napoli has qualified for the Europa League next season. In the attacking end, Napoli has been decent with 61 scored goals, but their defense has been a disaster with 50 conceded goals, something that has slightly improved when Gattuso took over, but it was already too late to get close to the top. The Champions League was better for Napoli and they ended the group stage in second place with 12 points, 11 scored goals, and only 4 conceded goals. There are no injuries or suspensions in Napoli ahead of this game. Mertens has been outstanding in the Champions League for Napoli this season with 6 goals, while Milik added 3 goals. When Napoli is playing their best game, they are extremely dangerous and hard to beat, and with Gattuso being the head coach, Napoli has that warrior charisma, and they don’t give up on a game. It will be a hard game for Napoli because their form hasn’t been good, but this is the Champions League, and anything is possible.
Barcelona is coming into this game with an away goal advantage, while Napoli has to score at least one goal if they want to have a chance of advancing to the quarterfinals. Not many teams can prevent Barcelona from scoring at home, and Napoli isn’t one of those teams. I think Barcelona will get a nice win here.
