FC Dallas and Nashville SC meet Wednesday night in MLS soccer action at Toyota Stadium.
FC Dallas would have been a contender entering the MLS is Back Tournament but was forced to withdraw due to positive COVID tests. With a bunch of talented young players and a strong start to the season with a win over the Philadelphia Union and draw against the Montreal Impact, FC Dallas would have certainly made some noise in the event. Head coach Luchi Gonzalez admitted the tournament was hard to watch from the sidelines and he’s never gone this long without coaching a game that mattered. Needless to say, FC Dallas is a club that’s been eager to get back on the field, as this team hasn’t played a match since March 7. Zdenek Ondrasek leads FC Dallas with two goals, Jesus Ferreira has one assist and Ricardo Pepi has one shot on goal. Defensively, Jesse Gonzalez has allowed two goals on five shots faced.
Nashville SC watched its season come to an end as well due to several positive COVID tests, which was quite disappointing given that this is a debut team with just two matches under its belt. Nashville SC is still looking for its first win in franchise history after losses to Atlanta United FC and the Portland Timbers. Nashville SC hasn’t played a match since March 8 and has been outscored 3-1 in its first two games overall. Nashville SC is another team that has to be thrilled about having another chance to play after things ending before they really even began. Walker Zimmerman leads Nashville SC with one goal, Randall Leal has two shots on goal and Jimmy Medranda has one shot on goal. Defensively, Joe Willis has allowed three goals on four shots faced.
This will be the first ever meeting between FC Dallas and Nashville SC.
A lot like what we're seeing from Inter Miami, it's going to take time for a new team like Nashville SC to figure things out, and it may take a little longer after not being able to get consistent reps under its belt. FC Dallas is a very talented club that would have had a say in who won the tournament if things didn't go south with the virus. Because of that, I have to side with FC Dallas getting the victory, a team that's been together longer and players kind of know their role already.
FC Dallas builds on what was a strong start to the season.
