FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich are clashing at Estadio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica in the Champions League Quarterfinals.
Barcelona has lost LaLiga title race, but they are still in the Champions League, and if Barcelona can play their best soccer this season, they can win this competition. In their Round of 16 game against Napoli at home, Barcelona has had 51% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, and high 91% of the correct passes. Barcelona wasn’t as dominant as they hoped for, but they were incredibly effective, and Barcelona has scored 3 goals from 4 shots on goal, and with that, Barcelona has won this match 3-1. Barcelona was solid in the group stage where they won first place, but this was their best game in the Champions League this season. Suarez has scored 4 goals for Barcelona in the Champions League, while Messi added 3 goals and 3 assists, while Griezmann added another 2 goals. Umtiti, Dembele, and Todibo are all injured, while Braithwaite is ineligible to play in the Champions League. Messi, Vidal, and Suarez are all in danger of suspensions if they concede another yellow card. There were a lot of good things in Barcelona’s game this season, but there have also been a lot of bad things, such as their inconsistent defense, and lack of offense when Messi isn’t in the mood. The win against Napoli was a confidence boost for Barcelona, but this match against Bayern will be a true test for this team, and I hope they can emerge victoriously.
Bayern has been outstanding in the second half of the season, especially after the restart when Bayern won every single one of their games, and with that, Bayern has won the Bundesliga title and DFB Pokal title. The last game that Bayern lost was a friendly game against Nurnberg in early February. In the Champions League group stage, Bayern has been brilliant with 6 wins, 18 points, 24 scored goals, and only 5 conceded goals. Bayern has been scoring an average of 4 goals per game in the Champions League. In their second leg match in the Round of 16 against Chelsea, Bayern has been dominant with 63% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, 5 big chances created, and 89% of the correct passes. With a 3-0 win from the first leg, Bayern could have relaxed a bit in this game, and they still won 4-1. Lewandowski has been Bayern’s best player and top goalscorer in the Champions League with 13 goals in 7 games, and in my opinion, he is the best striker in the world. Gnabry added 6 goals. Tolisso and Lewandowski both have 4 assists. Pavard is the only injured player for Bayern, but he is getting close to recovery. There aren’t many teams that could beat Bayern in this form, probably only one, Manchester City, but even though they are among the best teams in Europe at the moment, Bayern must remain calm and focused because they are going against a good team that has the best player on the planet on their roster.
Bayern is a huge favorite here, and deservedly so, but with Messi on the other side, anything is possible. The choice is clear here, and those are goals. When Bayern and Barcelona meet, we usually see a ton of chances, great soccer, and plenty of goals, and there is no reason to think otherwise here.
