Olympique Lyonnais and Bayern Munich are playing in the UEFA Champions League Semifinals at Jose Alvalade.
Lyon hasn’t played a competitive game in a while, but they were still able to pull off two surprises in the Champions League. First, Lyon knocked out Juventus in the Round of 16, despite losing that game I might add, and then, Lyon beat Manchester City in the Quarterfinals last week. Lyon was a huge underdog in that match, and they were the weaker team with only 29% of ball possession, 3 corner kicks, 69% of the correct passes, but remarkable 6 shots on goal. Lyon got ahead early, in the 24th minute, but Manchester City tied the game in the 69th minute. In the 75th minute, Dembele has entered the game for Lyon, and in the 79th and the 87th minute, Dembele has scored 2 goals, and with that, Lyon has won this match 1-3. Depay has scored 6 goals for Lyon in the Champions League this season, while Dembele now has 2 goals. Aouar added 4 assists. There are no injuries or suspensions in Lyon as of right now, but Marcelo is in danger of being suspended if he concedes another yellow card. Lyon is a good team, managed really well, and they do have a lot of talent, but it is a big surprise that Lyon is in the Champions League semifinals, and I just don’t think they can pull another surprise.
There are no words to describe Bayern’s form at the moment. Bayern hasn’t lost a game since January 11th, while winning their last 20 games, and along the way, Bayern has won two titles, Bundesliga and DFB Pokal. Bayern has been super dominant in the Champions League this season, and in their last 2 games, Bayern has scored massive 12 goals, while conceding 3 goals. In their most recent match against Barcelona in the Quarterfinals, Bayern has been absolutely fantastic with 50% of ball possession, massive 14 shots on goal, 9 corner kicks, 8 big chances created, and solid 87% of the correct passes. With 4 scored goals in each half, Bayern has absolutely demolished Barcelona. The final score was 2-8. Lewandowski has scored massive 14 goals and added 5 assists for Bayern in the Champions League this season. Gnabry added 7 goals, while Muller has 4 goals. Pavard is the only injured player for Bayern Munich. Bayern is an incredibly dangerous team in the attacking end, and Lewandowski is probably having his best season yet, while on the defensive end, Bayern has been better than they were the last few seasons. This huge win over Barcelona is a massive confidence boost for Bayern and being the favorite to win this competition is clearly working well for Bayern. I mentioned in my previous article that there is probably only one team in Europe that could beat Bayern, which is Manchester City, and with them being knocked out of the competition, I think Bayern will win the Champions League.
Lyons is a good team, but I think they lack the quality and depth to beat Bayern in their current form. Bayern is outstanding on both ends, especially in the attacking end where they are scoring a ton of goals.
