Lorient is welcoming Strasbourg to Stade Yves Allainmat-Le Moustoir in round 1 in French Ligue 1.

Lorient has played only 4 games in the preseason, and 3 of those ended in a draw, while Lorient won 1 game. Lorient was in Ligue 2 last season, and since Lorient was at the top of the standings with 54 points before the season was canceled, Lorient has won the title, and they got promoted to Ligue 1. Lorient was the best team in Ligue 2 last season, both offensively and defensively, and even if the season wasn’t canceled, I think Lorient would have won the title. There are no injuries or suspensions in Lorient as of right now. Grbic is the biggest signing for Lorient this season, he arrived from Clermont for 9 million Euros. Diarra arrived from Le Mans, while Boisgard arrived from Toulouse. Meslier is the most notable departure from Lorient, and he left for Leeds for 6.5 million. Lorient is definitely not the worst team in Ligue 1, but they are careful with their expectations. The only goal Lorient has is to secure their Ligue 1 status for next season, and whatever happens after that is a bonus. Good luck in Ligue 1, Lorient.

Strasbourg was solid last season, and they were able to stay far away from the relegation zone, in 11th place with 38 points, 32 scored goals, and 32 conceded goals. In the preseason, Strasbourg was decent with 2 wins and 1 loss, 5 scored goals, and 4 conceded goals. Before the season was paused, and then canceled, Strasbourg was in solid form, and since they were only 3 points away from the Europa League, Strasbourg might have gotten the necessary points to get there, but we will never know. Idriss Saadi is the only injured player for Strasbourg, and unfortunately, his return date is still unknown. As far as the transfer market goes, Strasbourg wasn’t very active, and the only notable transfer they made was signing of Majeed Waris from Porto B for 2 million Euros. There aren’t any big names in Strasbourg’s roster, but as they proved last season, you don’t need big names to make a notable result, you need a great team, and Strasbourg certainly is a great team. With a decent offense, and a solid defense, Strasbourg could once again stay far from the relegation zone this season, but I don’t expect them to get closer to the Europa League.

Lorient and Strasbourg have played only 4 times against each other, and that was over 10 years ago. Lorient has won 1 game, Strasbourg has won 2 games, while 1 game ended in a draw. I don’t think this will be a particularly good and interesting game and don’t think we will see goals. I will pick a draw for this match.
