Austria is hosting Romania at Worthersee Stadion in round 2 in the UEFA Nations League.

Austria has had a good qualification cycle, and they have qualified for the Euro Cup next year. Austria will be playing in Group C with Ukraine and Netherlands, while the fourth team will be decided at the later date. In their last match against Norway just a few days ago, Austria was the better team with 60% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and 80% of the correct passes. Austria was leading 0-1 at half time, and they scored another goal in the 54th minute. Norway was able to split the lead in half in the 66th minute, but Austria was playing well, and they deservedly so won this match 1-2. Gregoritsch and Sabitzer were goalscorers for Austria, while Ulmer added an assist. I was pleasantly surprised by Austria in this match, and they were better than I thought they will be. Austria is a good team, and they have been constantly improving thanks to the rising quality of their national soccer league. Austria has one of the better youth development strategies in Europe, and they are constantly producing young and talented players. I think that the best days are yet to come to Austria.

Romania hasn’t qualified for the Euro Cup yet, but they still can through the Qualification playoffs where they will face Iceland. Romania hasn’t won any of their last 4 games, but they have shown some progress recently. Romania was playing against Northern Ireland at home a few days ago, and they were the better team in that game with 72% of ball possession, 9 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, 4 big chances created, and a solid 86% of the correct passes. Romania had the lead since the 25th minute and an extra player on the field since the 39th minute when Northern Ireland conceded a red card. Despite being the better team, Romania has conceded a goal in the 86th minute, and this match ended in a 1-1 draw. George Puscas has scored the only goal for Romania so far, while Chiriches added 1 assist. Romania has been playing well, but they still make the mistakes they shouldn’t, especially on the defensive end, but I like their chances of getting to the Euro Cup next year.

Three of five games Austria and Romania played ended in a draw, while each team won one game. We don’t see many goals when these two teams meet, but their latest performances are making me rethink this. Both teams are playing well offensively, while Romania is far worse on the defensive end. I will side with Austria at home, but I will also add goals here.
