Granada is welcoming Athletic Bilbao to Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes in the opening match of the new LaLiga season.
Granada has ended last season in 7th place with 56 points, and they will be playing in the Europa League qualifications. In the preseason, Granada has been terrible with 2 losses and 1 draw, 6 conceded goals, and only 2 scored goals. Foulquier and Molina are both injured, and they will miss the beginning of the new season. Granada has been active in the transfer market so far, and Milla, Gonalons, Soro, Folquier, Molina, Vallejo, and Kenedy have all arrived at the club, some were bought, while some arrived on loan. Vadillo, Gonzalez, and Cruz have all left the club, but fortunately for Granada, none of them were of great importance to the team. After this match, Granada will be playing against Teuta in the Europa League qualifications, an Albanian team that ended last season in 5th place. I don’t think Granada will have much trouble in this match, and I think we will be seeing them in the Europa League group stage. Granada has had a fantastic last season, and they can only hope this one will be at least the same, or possibly even better.
Athletic Bilbao has ended last season in 11th place, and they were supposed to play in Copa del Rey finals, but that match was canceled, and the Europa League spot was awarded to Athletic Bilbao as Real Sociedad has qualified through LaLiga. Athletic was solid in the preseason with 1 win and 2 draws 6 scored goals and 5 conceded goals. All three of their friendly games were played against the LaLiga teams. There are no injuries or suspensions in Athletic Bilbao as of right now. There weren’t any notable arrivals or departures to Athletic Bilbao as of right now. The Europa League group in which Athletic Bilbao will play is yet to be determined. Athletic is a good team with players like Inaki Williams, Raul Garcia, Muniain, and Martinez, but I’ve said this many times before, and I will say it again, Athletic Bilbao’s policy to have only the players with the connection to their region of Basque is stopping them from accomplishing a better result, and for as long as Athletic is sticking to this policy, they will never come closer to the top of the LaLiga standings. Athletic Bilbao can compete for 4th or 5th place in LaLiga, but that is their maximum.
The trends are mixed here, and each team has been dominant at home in this matchup. Granada has made a lot of good moves on the market in the offseason, and they are the better team than Athletic Bilbao in my opinion, but Bilbao was better in the preseason, and that matters. Usually, when these two teams meet, we see goals, and I will give it a shot here as well. I will pick something on goals.
