Paris Saint-Germain is welcoming Olympique de Marseille to Parc des Princes in a derby match of round 3 in the French Ligue 1.
PSG was playing fantastic soccer in the Champions League last month, and that brought them into the finals, where unfortunately for them, PSG lost 0-1. Just a few days ago, PSG has played their first match in Ligue 1 against Lens on the road. PSG was dominant in that match with 79% of ball possession, 1 shot on goal, 2 corner kicks, 0 big chances created, and high 91% of the correct passes. PSG was the better team in this match, but the lack of offense was notable because they were missing Mbappe, Neymar, Di Maria, and a few more important players. PSG has lost this match 1-0. Once again, PSG will miss Di Maria, Mbappe, Icardi, and Navas for this game, but the good news is that Neymar is back, and he will lead this team in this game. PSG is a strong team, but they have lost their probably best defender in Thiago Silva because he left the team, but their base of players is strong, and PSG has enough quality to cover for Silva. Once again, PSG is the biggest favorite to win Ligue 1 title, but I think it will be much harder to do so this season than it was last season.
Marseille was hot and cold in the preseason, but they have started Ligue 1 with a nice win 2 weeks ago. Marseille was playing against Brest in their first game of the season, and they have had 42% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, 2 big chances created, and 73% of the correct passes. The first half result was 1-2 in favor of Marseille, but they were under big pressure from Brest in the second half. Marseille has scored another goal in the 80th minute, and they were lucky they did because Brest scored another goal in the 89th minute. The final score was 2-3 in favor of Marseille. With 3 points, Marseille is in 11th place in the standings. Caleta-Car has scored 2 goals for Marseille, while Thauvin added 1 goal and 2 assists. Sanson has 1 assist. Steve Mandana is the only injured player for Marseille, and he will not be in the lineup for this match. Marseille is getting better with every season, and they will be playing in the Champions League this season because they ended in second place last season. Offensively, Marseille was solid last season, but their defense was what kept Marseille high in the standings. They are not quite consistent yet this season, but Marseille is getting there.
PSG hasn’t lost any of their last 17 home games, and the last time they lost to Marseille at home was back in 2010. With Neymar back, PSG’s offense has greatly improved, and they can score at least 1 goal, although Marseille’s defense is shaky at best, which means PSG can score more. Marseille is solid offensively, and I think they could score at least 1 goal here.
