Fiorentina is welcoming Torino to Stadion Artemio Franchi in the opening game of the new Serie A season.

Fiorentina has ended the last season with 2 nice wins, and they continued in the same rhythm in the preseason. Fiorentina has won their last 2 friendly games, and they have scored 10 goals while conceding only 1 goal during that stretch. The last season was decent for Fiorentina, and they ended in 10th place with 49 points, 51 scored goals, and 48 conceded goals. Fiorentina has sold Veretout to Roma, while Simeone stayed in Cagliari after his loan with the same team expired. Duncan and Lirola have arrived from Sassuolo, Kouame from Genoa, Bonaventura from Milan, and Valero from Inter. The biggest news for Fiorentina is that they were able to keep Chiesa at the club, at least for now because the transfer window is still open. Fiorentina is continuing this season with their current coach, Iachini even though there were a lot of speculations that there will be a coaching change, and I think there should be. Fiorentina is struggling on both ends, especially on the defensive end, which is why Fiorentina needs the coach that gets the maximum out of this talented team. I see Fiorentina far away from the relegation zone, but they will need plenty more offense if they want to reach the Europa League.

Torino was struggling last season, and they ended up in 16th place with 40 points, barely escaping the relegation zone. Offensively, Torino was solid with 46 scored goals, but their defense was a disaster with massive 68 conceded goals. Torino has played only 3 friendly games, and they have 1 win, 1 loss, and 1 draw, but Torino has won only 1 of their last 8 games overall. Torino has a lot of good players like Belotti, Zaza, Verdi, but those are all offensive players, and the defense is where Torino needs improvement. Torino also got the new head coach, Marco Giampaolo, former Milan coach who got fired after only 7 games, talk about improvement. Until this summer, Verdi was on loan at Torino, but now he has been bought for 22 million Euros. Linetty, Vojvoda, and Rodriguez have also arrived at Torino. Bonifazi is the only notable player that has left Torino this summer. If Torino doesn’t sign a few more defensive players before the transfer window closes, they will struggle once again this season.

When playing at home, Fiorentina has not lost to Torino in their last 9 games, while Fiorentina hasn’t lost any of their last 6 home games overall. Torino hasn’t won any of their last 11 away games. Fiorentina has improved in the offseason, but we can’t say the same thing for Torino. I think Fiorentina will have a good season, while Torino will struggle once again. I will stick with Fiorentina in their first game of the season, at home I might add.
