Bristol City and Aston Villa face off in a third-round EFL Cup showdown on Thursday at Ashton Gate in Bristol.
Aston Villa almost was relegated from the Premier League last season but they stayed up, and now they are coming off a win in their first game. In the first game of their season against Sheffield United, it wasn’t the prettiest game, but they caught a few breaks and a goal in the 63rd minute by Ezri Consa was enough to come away with the victory. In the second round of the EFL Cup Aston Villa faced off with Burton and in that game it was a couple of late goals that was the different. They actually fell behind early in that game, but a goal in the 39th minute, and two goals in the last few minutes allowed them to come away with victories and allowed them to advance.
On the other side of this matchup is Bristol City who currently play in the second tier of English Football. Bristol City hopes to be getting a shot at the Premier League and they come into this game hot having won four games in a row. In the second round of the EFL Cup, against Northampton Town, Bristol City’s offense was strong putting up four goals and they had no issue coming away with a victory. In that game, Bristol City had 79 percent of the possession and there was really no doubt from the beginning of that game that they were going to come away with a victory. In Bristol City’s last game against Stoke City the offense was also good coming away with a 2-0 victory.
Bristol City is underdogs in this one, but they are a solid play with a chance for a nice payout. Bristol City’s offense has looked good and they are going to get the job done. Look for Aston Villa’s defense to struggle and that will lead to Bristol City coming away with a victory.
