Manchester City and AFC Bournemouth face off in a third-round EFL Cup showdown on Thursday at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Bournemouth now plays in the Championship, the second tier of English football. So far since the start of the league, Bournemouth has played to a couple of draws and they won the other game. Bournemouth’s last game in the EFL Cup was against Crystal Palace and it was a defensive battle. Bournemouth had 63 percent of the possession, but they could only maange three shots on goal. The game ended in a 0-0 draw, and it took penalties, and Bournemouth came away with an 11-10 victory. In the last game in the Championship, Bournemouth faced off with Middlesbrough and in that one the game was played to a 1-1 draw. In that game Dominic Solanke was the goal scorer, but they also gave up a goal in the 81st minute and that led to the draw.
On the other side of this matchup is Manchester City who are still one of the best teams in the entire world. Well many teams have had a few games in the last couple of weeks, Manchester City has only played one game, but they were impressive in that game. Manchester City’s first game in the EPL was against the Wolves and it was over almost from the start. Manchester City put up three goals led with Kevin De Bruyne who had the first goal by a penalty kick. The big question for City is what group are going to bring with them. Is this a tournament they care about winning or will this be their second team? Their second team still be might be better than Bournemouth, but it probably won't be as guaranteed if that is who plays.
There is no doubt that Manchester City is the better team in this game, but there probably won't be a whole lot of motivation for this team and that is going to be the difference. Manchester City might end up advancing but Bournemouth +1.25 is the play in this game.
